Okkorim is a place of arcane magic where deadly foes wield dark powers in their quest for dominance over the land—a harsh place where only the strong and cunning can expect to succeed. Sages claim that this place was once fertile and verdant, crisscrossed with waterways and a surfeit of flora and fauna. The land was rich with resources and well suited to provide sustenance for the many people and species inhabiting it. One group flourished, gaining dominion over all other sentient beings throughout the lands. Through their mastery of the elements, the Ydrissid Empire rose to glory and built wonders unparalleled in the world of Okkorim.
Over the span of centuries, the Ydrissid civilization prospered and expanded, eventually holding sway over the entirety of Okkorim. This did not satisfy the sorcerer-kings ruling the Ydrissid Empire. Their insatiable hunger for power drove them to extend their influence across all the known lands, as well as across many planes of existence. At the height of their reign, a cataclysm struck Okkorim—destroying the mighty civilization and razing their wonderous cities to nothing more than ash.
Eons have passed since the fateful day that ended the Ydrissid Empire, transforming the green and fertile country into a twisted and blackened landscape known as the Blighted Lands. Strange and dangerous creatures lurk in the inhospitable desert of the Blighted Lands, but it is also said to contain hidden remnants of the cities of Ydrissid. Many brave or foolish folk have forayed into the desert in search of fame, fortune, and power, but few have returned—fewer still have returned with the rewards they had left to seek out.
